Synopsis:

Former operative, Grant Kendal, has spent his life hunting the shadows of evil. He can feel it changing him; twisting him into the very thing he despises. A mindless killer.

Thalia Brezlin is a marked woman, hell-bent on revenge. She is haunted by the nightmares of her past. A past that lies in wait to destroy her. When she washes ashore Grant’s desolate island of exile, beaten, stabbed and clinging to life, their worlds collide.

Follow them across Africa, Madagascar and India into the underworld of human trafficking. Where innocence isn't lost. It’s stolen.

Passion will rage, rules will be broken, lives will be shattered and the truth will be revealed. Survival is Second Nature.

WARNING: Second Nature is a contemporary erotic romance and contains explicit sexual content, adult language and graphic violence. Recommended for the adult reader only. While Grant’s story can certainly be enjoyed on its own, the author recommends becoming better acquainted with him and his journey by experiencing his debut in Second Chances (When Seconds Count, #1)

My Review:

I was so excited to read this book.  It was one of the few books that I have followed the teasers on.  Not that I don't read teasers from other books, but I don't follow many of them.  To teasers are like movie trailers and often will highlight the best parts and leave you saying "What the hell?" at the end of it all. So I'll read a teaser, but usually that is about it. A teaser. This one however, I read them all an longed to read the book.  Time passed far far too slowly. Ha!

So the book follows "Grant Kendall" (there is a reason for the quotation marks ha!) as he heads for retirement from his career as a 'mindless killer'.  After his last favor to his friend, he decided that the person he has become needs to be far away from anyone.  He was set on a life of exile until Winston finds a woman washed up on the shore of his island.

Thalia is a woman who has seen the evil in the world and one of the few that has lived to talk about it.  She survived more than you can imagine and even more than she can remember.  She has one goal and knows the results of pursuing this goal, but pursues it nonetheless. It was the last thing she promised her uncle and as far as she's concerned it will be the last thing she did.

I had a hard time putting this book down when I had to.  This book is an addictive read and snags you right out of the gate.  Now it is not an essential part to do, but you should probably read Second Chances before reading this book.  Not only to get a better understanding of Grant and who he is, but also because many of the characters from that book appear in this book at one stage or another.  For my review of Second Chances please click here.

The rollercoaster that these two are sent on throughout this book will pull at you and you wonder what will happen with them as time drags on.  Now this book had heat to it as well.  No not just heat...its more than that...Not as volcanic as Second Chances, but still burn worthy all the same.  (I have a feeling that burning you to your core is exactly what D. L. Roan has in mind the minute she sits behind her computer ha!)

I can't even begin to tell you (in fear of giving too much away) how on the edge of your seat you will be reading this.  Hell there are several points where I felt I couldn't even breath.  Grant will break your freaking heart for him and because of him.  Thalia your heart is already broken for, but you spend the book trying to glue it together, but keeping those small pieces together is tough...so it seems you spend your time picking up the pieces and watching them fall.  Not in a bad way, but a sad you want to see her happy kind of way.

Both of them deserve to be happy, but for them...neither of them feel they deserve it at all. It is gut wrenching and adrenaline spiking read.

To D. L. Roan:  Wow, I can't really even think of words to tell you about this one.  You made me feel I was so much part of this when that one specific part in the book where she's being 'hunted' in the wilderness...I jumped, screamed and dropped my Kindle.  You are freaking fantastic and I wish you all the success you are surely to have.  You deserve it all as it comes with writing like this.  So I'm addicted.  I can't wait for more!  Get writing! Ha!

You HAVE to read this books...Seriously! What are you waiting for?  Its the 15th right?!  Go get the book!
